THIS IS ACTUALLY HAPPENING!

THIS πŸ‘πŸ»Β IS πŸ‘πŸ» ACTUALLY πŸ‘πŸ» HAPPENING πŸ‘πŸ» !!!Β

Hello and welcome to the most informal post you’ll read on this website! I cannot contain my excitement because tonight I just announced the biggest trip of my life and now I’m here to tell you all about it! Before I get into the details, allow me to introduce myself:

My name is Katarina (aka Kat), I’m 22 years old and I live in Sydney Australia. I’m an ex-figure skater turned solo traveller and self titled festival junkie. Over the last three years, I’ve attended over 50 music festivals (solo) in over 25 countries across Europe, Asia and North America, documenting every single minute of it for complete strangers on the internet to see. When I’m not travelling, I’m studying a double degree at university and working up to 7 days a week to be able to afford my crazy lifestyle. At the end of the year, I will finally be graduating, quitting my job and travelling the world for a whole year in an attempt to attend 52 festivals in 52 weeks and spread happiness, positivity and inspiration to everyone I meet along the way.

The featured image is a photo of me at Ultra Miami earlier this year. My friend was taking bursts of me dancing around with my flag and just happened to capture this moment when one of my favourite songs came on at the main stage behind me. Even though I look like a total idiot, I love this photo because it’s just so pure and happy and accurately represents my reaction towards just about anything festival related including the trip I’m about to go on…

So what the hell is going on? I’ve tried to explain this a million times and I figured since Education is one of my majors, I would use the 5 W’s approach because this is probably the only time I’ll actually use anything I got out of University…

WHO is doing this?

Surprise! I’m not actually doing this trip solo for once. Not long after this photo was taken, I befriended a guy named Kyle. I eventually met him a few months later at EDC Las Vegas and just happened to run into him at Tomorrowland Belgium about a month after that. We vibed really well and continued to talk about our travel plans for the future once we parted ways. Hundreds of messages later, we brought this crazy idea in my head to life and this insane solo adventure became a mission to spread PLUR all over the world. He’ll be joining me for the first half of the adventure before I continue on my annual summer Europe trip solo.

WHAT is going on?

I recently purchased a one way flight out of Sydney which has been my dream for the longest time. For those of you who have been following me for a while, you know that I’m known for doing massive back to back festival trips so the only way to one up that in true Kat fashion is to go all out: 52 festivals in 52 weeks. I will continue to document every single minute of my journey, creating videos for each festival and blog posts explaining just about everything else.

WHEN am I doing this?

I am flying to California on the 26th of December, where I will be celebrating New Years Eve before officially startingΒ The Year Of Summer on January 1st, 2018.

WHERE am I going?

If you’ve seen the promo video, then you know I will be hitting up 24 countries across 5 continents throughout the year. I will be exploring festivals throughout North, Central and South America before officially kicking off festival season in Europe and Asia. For details on which festivals I’ll be attending, check out the Map page here.

WHY am I doing this?

Short answer: I have no fucking idea!

Long answer: Find out in my next post here

So what is theyearofsummer.com? This is a place where you can find anything and everything you want to know about solo travelling, music festivals, money and everything in between. Anyone who has followed me up until now knows I am an open book when it comes to these things so I’m here to answer all the questions. Over the next few weeks, I will be sharing my own experiences with travelling to festivals over the last couple of years for anyone who wants to get to know me better or is curious about my history. During this crazy adventure, I will be documenting my journey through blog posts and weekly videos, including honest reviews about each festival I go to and price breakdowns of how much it really costs to travel the world. As a thank you to anyone who chooses to support me, I will be giving away random festival tickets throughout the year so make sure to follow the madness for a chance to win!
